~ Indianapolis, Sunday, February 5 ~
The New England Patriots and New York Giants will play in Super Bowl XLVI; this is the big game NFL fans have been looking forward to.
Super Bowl XLVI will be played in Lucas Oil Stadium and the demand for Super Bowl XLVI tickets has been booming. In St. Maarten, NFL fans will have to watch the game on the telly at home or at one of the many sports bars that are showing the game on Sunday.
The "Super Bowl" name was derived from the bowl game, a term used to describe post-season college football games. The original "bowl game" was the Rose Bowl Game in California, first played in 1902. It then moved to the new Rose Bowl Stadium in 1923. The stadium got its name from the fact that the game played there was part of the Tournament of Roses and that it was shaped like a bowl; eventually the game came to be known as the Rose Bowl Game.
The Super Bowl is the championship game of the National Football League (NFL), the highest level of professional American football in the United States, culminating a season that begins in the late summer of the previous calendar year. This game is held at a pre-selected site, usually a city that hosts an NFL team. The Super Bowl uses Roman numerals to identify each game, rather than the year in which it is held. For example, Super Bowl I was played on January 15, 1967, following the regular season played in 1966. The Super Bowl XLVI will be played on February 5, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana, to determine the champion of the 2011 regular season.
Super Bowl Sunday is considered an American national holiday. This holiday is the second-largest day of food consumption, after Thanksgiving Day, for U.S.A. It has become the most watched American television program broadcast for the year, in history.
The most amazing aspect of Super Bowl Sunday (after the game itself) is the advertising and the performers who take the stage at interval. Due to the high cost of investing in advertising on the Super Bowl, companies regularly develop their most expensive advertisements for this broadcast. As a result, watching and discussing the broadcast's commercials have become a significant aspect of the event. Many popular singers and musicians perform during the pre-game and halftime ceremonies because of the exposure.
Holding a Super Bowl Party at home. For all those thousands who cannot go to actually watch THE game, getting a large group of friends together to go to one of the sports bars is a great alternative, but there are also many who get together to watch the game at home. The most important part of this festivity (apart from watching the game) is the food. Every year, you hear conversations about what and who will make this dish or the other. Here are some suggestions for food to have on hand while the Super Bowl Game is on. Remember calories don't count for birthdays, holidays and Super Bowl Sundays!!
Make a huge pot of soup – cauliflower and cheddar cheese is a great one to have on hand.
A hearty seafood gumbo or stew would go down well.
Dips; buffalo chicken dip always goes down well.
Crackers, baguette slices, crisps and a platter of fresh veg/salad cut into fingers for dipping.
Crab stuffed mushrooms, BBQ beef pizza, game day nachos, roasted garbanzo beans; the list goes on.
Make sure you have enough ice cold drinks on hand, ready to grab, as the heat of the game makes one very thirsty. Above all, enjoy the game, discuss the crazy advertising and enjoy the performers; but most of all, be safe!
